Today would have been Julia Child's 97th Birthday... she died 5 years ago... 2 days before her 92nd birthday, and I think she had a wonderful long life. Wonder what her Birthday dinner request would have been? I have decided that after having made Julia's delicious Reine de Saba cake twice now.... it has become my official 'signature' cake! Thank you Julia! I never have had a 'signagure' cake before!
Last night for Friday night date night, we kept it simple and enjoyed the spendor of the evening outside on the patio, beneath a gorgeous twinkling, star filled cloudless sky! All of us (Joe, myself, Jessica, Winston and Amber) were exhausted from the week. It wasn't a bad week, it was just one of those hectic, go go go kind of weeks that catches up with you and you feel like you have hit a brick wall.
We had ribs, wings, roasted potatoes (new potatoes and sweet potatoes), a salad and leftover Queen of Sheba cake. It was all delicious and we literally snarfled it up. We were all starving, so there was no conversation while we ate, we were all busy with our ribs and wings, but the conversation picked right back up and kept flowing after we finished eating. Simple, common, no-fuss food.... but oh soooooo good too!
No one wanted to guss up or go out, I didn't want to cook a big production again last night, and the patio is, and always has been our favorite spot! Amber's boyfriend Ben is getting in from TX today, and we might possibly have a repeat patio food-a-thon performance tonight. I sure hope so!!!! Bless his heart.... Ben was supposed to arrive last night at midnight.... after having had a 4 hr layover..... but...... got bumped off the plane and had to spend the night and fly in this morning.
Whatever we cook/grill for dinner tonight, it will be tasty and simple.... it's another gorgeous day, cloudless sky and I'm looking forward to another evening with my daughters and their fellas. Bon Appetit
